09/10 rookies: what do YOU think?!
i started collecting again last year so last year's crop of rookies really stand out to me and i try to keep an eye on how they are doing. obviously the big one last year was tavares... but there were other hobby darlings like duchene and jvr... as well as other stand out rookies like evander kane, victor hedman, and antti niemi.
now that some of these guys are playing more, do you seen any of these guys taking off? do these guys still have hobby love?
last month i began a logan couture pc and it's been great watching him play. technically, he's still a rookie THIS year, but most of his cards already came out last year. he's been doing great for the sharkys.
who do you see as having a good hobby future?

Last years crop isnt looking good, thats for sure. Just mediocre, no real superstars (right now at least). Cant fault Tavares for the sad excuse for a team hes on. Duchene is decent, just not a superstar and everyone else is just...alright.

If I were to invest in a 09-10 rookie, I would put my money on Vicky Hedman. He's playing on a team with a highly touted GM, a highly touted head coach, and a very potent front-line. Duchene might be my second choice.

Almost all players in their sophomore years drop significantly in value unless they really have a huge breakout year. All hype always goes back to current rookies.

I think that all of the guys from last year are going to experience a hobby sophomore slump. Tavares was riding the wave of being the #1 draft choice, now he's going to be a good hope on a team that has little else. Duchene may yet be a breakout. Myers is struggling something fierce and has to deal with the double whammy of being a d-man in his 2nd season. Kane is now just a guy in Atlanta - where hobby love goes to die. Hedman has a possibility of being a respectable d-man for sure, but again, D-man. Niemi = flash in the pan, hot goalie at the right time, like Steve Mason.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

I always said, and I'll say it again... 08/09 rookie crop was deeper than last year's.
There was no sleeper hobby wise. Except perhaps Jamie Benn...

Duchene and E Kane are gonna be good one's, no doubt, they are the class of the crop IMO.
Tavares may never totally live up to the hype but he is a force for sure and might end up being a late bloomer.
Myers should be a very steady dman for years to come. Hedman? Not sure yet, but I think he'll be damn solid as well.

I think shockingly Couture might end up the big guy of the class simply because he plays on a team that has tons of playmakers.
That being said I dunno if he'll be more than a 25 goal 60 pt guy.
Tavares is the best player but he's on an abhorrent team and unless he's traded or new ownership comes in his career will sink.
Frankly this class doesn't look like anything special at this point in time but check back in a few years.

hi there
i don't think the rookies are getting worse anything but i do think the league is getting tougher with the exception of New Jersey & New York Islanders. with the salary cap teams can't just to guy superstars anymore they have to be more efficient. Tavares has lots of potential & skill but needs more experience in the big league with the help other team mates don't count him out just yet. i think from the rookie class of 2009-10 keep an eye out for Tavares, Duchene, Eller, Kane, & Myers.

maybe I'm incredibly biased, but Anisimov has been playing great in NY. Last season without Gaborik, the Rangers could barely score a goal. This season, the AA-Dubi-Cally line was really stepping up to the plate.
