I have always paid for all my auctions even if I felt I was shilled. But bidding at the last second seems to be the best way to win an item and not get shilled.

to be honest, i was weirded out, it said i was originally outbid at one point on some, then like a half hour later, without bidding again, i was the leader. i have one auction

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWNX:IT

that shows my bid, then a 0% guy increase my bid high. and the ones where i was outbidded on got retracted, but not this one. i have not gone through them all to see if theyre all like this, but either way i feel kinda jipped. i'll contact the seller and see what the situation is, i'll let you guys know what happens. thanks for your imput!

I find it funny how you are all over the guy who doesnt want to pay after he was the victim of shill bidding, yet you use sniping programs to win auction. IMO, there isnt a difference between the two, you are just as much in the wrong as the shill bidder.

With that being said, I do agree you should try and work it out with the seller, and if that doesnt work try and contact Ebay.

Lol, What a ridiculous accusation. I use sniping software as well, except my sniping software has a bone in it......My Finger

I always have a hard time pointing the finger at people who might be shilling, becuase if you follow my bid patterns I'm sure someone might think I was helping a seller out by doing the same thing.

Often when I see a card available for sale, I do bid it up in small incriments - guessing what the max bid could be. I don't bid anything I wouldn't be comfortable paying for the card.... I would never retract them (to be that is the one sure sign of a shill bidder - the outbid you, retract, then bid just under you) but here's an example:

    Start bid is 99 cents
    Current bid is $5.24

I'm thinking that I would be willing to pay up to $30 for the card.

    Very often I would bid $5.99, $7.99, $9.99, $12.49, $14.99, $16.99, $19.99 - then see that the max bid is now at $20.

I'd stop bidding at that point, and then go back and look at the auction later. Maybe still sitting at $20 - but I've since changed my mind about my willingness to go any higher, and I leave it alone.

I bid the exact same way. Working my way up to the max im willing to spend.

After looking through several of his completed listings, it looks like you might have gotten hit by a shill on a couple of those auctions, but it definitely looks like a few other set collectors were looking to complete their sets as well. That's a popular set that doesn't pop up often and never in those numbers. You can report the seller, but in many instances, it looks like your bid was only higher than other legitimate bidders.

The normal shill tactic is to high bid, retract, and re-bid to max you out. Of the few retractions I spotted, your max was only the minimum increment over another bidder. I would ask the seller to cancel all of the 0-feedback guys bids and give you the last couple at better prices.

Good luck with it and I'd love to see the set all put together when you get it completed!
