Malkin has done what the past 1.5 years? other than leading the league in babyish bratty penalties last year I don't know what else he was widely reccognized for, LOL. And truthfully they don't play together as much as everyone likes to think. On the PP sure but otherwise they might spend 2-3 shifts a game together if that. The thing that irks me about Malkin, aside from his lack of production as of late is his lack of improvement. He was bad at faceoffs when he came into the league...still is. At times he seemed to give up on plays...still does. He's still bad on breakaways and shootouts. Compare Crosby 10/11 to Crosby 06/07 and look at where he's improved HIS game. They both are paid the identical salary but one doesn't quite seem to be worth it right now.

couldnt agree more. malkin has been a plug and waste of cap space for the last 100 or so games including last year's playoffs.

The two of them both play extremely hard, and at a very fast pace. Injury is a concern for both, and they have both been injured before, and will again because they try so very hard.

Crosby is injured now. It's the nature of their game. Those that play the hardest risk the most injury. What Ovechkin has in his favour is his size. He plays at over 225 lbs. Crosby is smaller, and real hits can do damage over a career.

We will never know the real damage they can do, as they will both be injured again, hopefully not in a serious nature. Gretzky could have played as long as Gordie Howe, however due to the nature of the Cross-Check in the back from Gary Suter, he could hardly get out of bed in 2000.

I hope you didn't take my reply as bashing you or anything because that wasn't my intent. Right now Sid is the best in the league and really that shouldn't be argued. Someone said Ovechkin has a better shot but it can be argued that not to be true also. He has more shots than Sid...and Sid has more goals. So really, who's shot is more effective right now? Crosby's shot today is a far cry from what it used to be. He improved his shot before last season and then prior to this year he worked on his slap shot which is clearly improved. Sid has worked on aspects of his game and drastically improved in the areas he worked on. Malkin plays the same game he always has and so does Ovechkin. Malkin, for his salary, is a concern amongst a lot of Pens fans. When you look at it in the sense that he makes the same as Sid in terms of salary many of us are left shaking our heads.

Not at all...did not take it as any kind of bashing...I was just replying to your replies from my earlier post - I was just agreeing that Crosby is the better player right now....but we will have this conversation over and over again and I think the media will boost whoever is playing well at the time.....These guys are elite - no matter how you look at them - they started the same time and the media has almost made them out like they are arch-enemies and make it a battle whenever they set foot on the ice together (was the Winter Classic really about Pens vs Caps? NO WAY - it was Crosby vs Ovechkin and always will be) - anytime the NHL or media can make it a Crosby vs Ovechkin....it will

I also agree with assestment on Malkin....He was a conversation among the Season Seat holders around me lately wondering if he was actaully still playing...seems like he disappeared from the face of the NHL elite

Not sure what the rumors are in Pittsburgh but here in LA, I have heard more than a few rumors that Malkin wont be in Pittsburgh more than another 2 years......and not neccessarily going to LA...just heard the rumor living in LA
