Brandon Wheat Kings Sportsman's Dinner
Brandon, MB. -- An Olympic Gold Medal and Stanley Cup winning coach and one of the most popular after dinner speakers in hockey today headline the list of speakers for the 2011 Brandon Wheat Kings’ CKLQ Sportsman’s Dinner to be held on Thursday, February 10th in the Keystone Centre’s UCT Pavillion.
A former Western Hockey League Coach of the Year with the Kamloops Blazers, Ken Hitchcock joined the National Hockey League’s Dallas Stars in 1995 and was there for six seasons, including 1999, when he led them to their first and only Stanley Cup.
The 59-year old Edmonton native spent three of the next four seasons coaching the Philadelphia Flyers, before taking over the Blue Jackets in Columbus in 2006. In April, 2008, he became the 20th coach in NHL history to coach in 900 or more games. Last season, he was relieved of his duties in Columbus after leading the Jackets to the first playoff appearance in franchise history.
In addition to his NHL career, Hitchcock was an associate coach on Canada’s 2002 and 2010 gold medal winning Olympic teams. As well, he won the silver medal at the 2008 IIHF World Hockey Championship in Halifax and Quebec City.
Dennis Hull will readily admit to not being anything other than Bobby’s brother, as long as you add he’s the younger brother. And, he’s even been known to answer to someone asking for Brett Hull’s uncle.

Forgot I posted this here, the dinner was awesome. Dick “the Polish Eagle” Jonckowski and Dennis Hull were very entertaining and even did autographs after the dinner. Hitchcock was gone pretty quickly but shared some cool stories. There was also some very nice auction donations there including a Ovechkin Autograph jersey (sold for around 400), a Toews Team Canada Autographed jersey (sold for around 1100), and a local favorite Matt Calvert Brandon Wheat Kings Memorial Cup Jersey (sold for 2200). There was much much more but those were the big ones.
