Why Are TV Games From MSG So Dark ??

I'm watching the game on NBC and typical MSG...It's like they are playing in a back alley. You can see spot shadows where the lights are shining in one area and not in others.

The corners are darker than a ghetto. I also have the best Sony HD TV money can buy, so it's definitely not my set.

Anybody else have a similar situation? I also get poor lighting from Northlands in Edmonton for games.

it's MSG... I get the MSG network in Buffalo and sometimes they forget to blackout the Ranger games here, and the lighting just stinks for every Ranger game.

Hopefully it will not be for much longer as MSG is getting renovated

Older arenas weren't built with TV considerations in mind. Take a look at some of the oldest recently-used rinks in the NHL over the past little while -- MSG, Nassau, the old Igloo -- and in each case, the lighting paled remarkably in comparison to newer buildings.

Air Canada Centre, in particular, was built to be camera-friendly, with well-positioned lines of bulbs that are far stronger than what you would have found at Maple Leaf Gardens. In this regard, newer is definitely better.
