I don't know how you can say Price has been the best goalie this year. Thomas has 100% been the best goalie all year long. I agree that Carey is a much better candidate for the Hart as he is more important to his team than Thomas (though Rask is majorly overrated).
Carey is a definitely a candidate, but I strongly doubt he'll win it.

For the Vezina:
I think Carey Price is viewed by the GMs as the best NHL goalie. Tim Thomas has good stats mainly due to the team in front of him, goalies like Luongo and Thomas are in the same boat this year. Sad for them, but best goalie is best goalie, not best stats. Price has an edge over Luongo and Thomas.
For the Hart:
There is no NHL stars having a "great" year. For this main reason, the Professional Hockey Writers' Association in all NHL cities will be influenced by the Montreal market, and Carey Price has a good shot for this trophy because the Habs have no superstar (outside a goalie like usual!).

Luongo doesn't deserve to be in the conversation for either award.
Price, because he has a somewhat weak team in front of him and is easily the most important guy on his team, definitely deserves to be in Hart talks. Vezina, maybe, but as a third pick at best behind Thomas and Rinne. Montreal fans need to take off the blinders and realize that Price has not been better than Thomas (or Rinne or even Hiller despite the injury) this year. Others need to realize that without Price, Montreal is likely in the basement without Price this season while few teams can attribute their success to one guy in the same manner (arguments can be made for Sedin and Stamkos, but I still see Price as more important to the Habs than they are to the Canucks and Lightning). Which all means two things:
Price is a definite contender for the Hart
Price should not be a contender for the Vezina.

i don't think Price should be up for consideration for the Hart. Hart winners are usually standouts that are taking their team to another level. while Price is doing great and is largely responsible for MON's success; they're doing decent but not great. "Montreal would be nowhere without Price!" may be true but isn't reason enough for him to win the Hart.
did Kovalchuk get the Hart for being the best on the team while in Atlanta?
how about Lundqvist when the Rangers weren't scoring yet still winning?
Rick Nash isn't getting it for carry Columbus all these years.
and anyone who thinks Price is playing better than Thomas for the Vezina is out of their mind. the only reason i think Price (and any other goalie) could win out over Thomas is because Thomas isn't carrying the load the same way other goalies are being relied upon.Last edited by SkyFire47; 03-21-2011 at 10:11 AM.

One of the Lowest scoring teams in the League.
One of the highest penalized teams.
Missing half of their defensive core, including their MVP Markov.
Over 20 of his wins were one goal wins, and 3/4 of those wins were either 3-2, or 2-1
8 Shut Outs on a team
Price, Sedin, and other for Hart, easily!

sounds like Lundqvist on a Rangers team from years past. i can agree with Price being stellar and going up for a Vezina nomination but i don't recall seeing Lundqvist getting Hart when he did the same.

Playing goal in any other city on the planet is one thing, playing goal in Montreal is a God's position.
Don't think for one second that the writers don't take into account what Price had to go through to get where he is today.
Anyway, no odds. There aren't many players in the league right now who are carrying the team (exception Price).
Crosby would have walked away with the Hart and the MVP, but he's sitting because of Steckle's "oops, I really didn't see you" hit.

No, he's sitting because of Hedman's "Get a closer look at the first row" hit.
