Great article, makes tons of valid points. Fights will happen no matter what. If someone cross checks Crosby from behind, I guarantee his teammates will be there.

It is a good read, and an interesting perspective.

I don't agree that Fights will happen 'no matter what' though...... but I would say that Fights will continue to happen under the current rules. If fighting were met with an automatic 15 game ban, nobody would fight - and enforcers like Shelly would be out of a job.

and the game would actually become dirtier. With no physical consequences there is no reason for a player not to have any cheap shots, no reason to not run the goalie if the altercation only leads to some shoving because players don't want to risk throwing a punch and getting suspended. I know for me, I was a dirty player when I played. I can only imagine what the league would be like if there were no enforcers policing their teammates

Yes but it would mean fighting is gone! /sarcasm.

You hit the nail on the head.

I agree with above comments but for myself personally, if fighting was banned I would probably still watch hockey (unless cheapshot artists dominate which is very likely) but nowhere near as much. I watch the Ducks games mainly to watch Parros and then Selanne but other then that I'm not very interested in them (I'm just using the Ducks as one of many personal examples). I would definitly be a lot less interested in rivals and would probably even miss a few Leafs games. As a Leafs fan there are some games that are over before the puck drops but you know it's going to be a good show because of the physical element. Get rid of that and you have a bunch of floaters blowing each other out.
