Erik Karlsson OPCP Patch /35, did I overpay?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...K%3AMEWNX%3AIT
I wanted one badly, didn't have any, and it looked cool
I bid up on it, only planned on spending about 35 or so, but went beyond that...
I feel like I overpaid, but again, it's a 60-120 value

Don't get me wrong, I never try to discourage collectors from their passion regarding specific players, or teams and the cards they search.
I used to buy, trade and sell cards based on emotion, I found out that from 1999-2005, all I did was lose money.
I now approach cards simply on the basis of them being a commodity, & I know people on here are mad at me because I always Low-Ball them when they ask me what they should pay.
I always ask people: "Will you achieve half the value of the card you bought, should you decide to sell it in 1/5/10/15 years time?"
If the answer is "No", then you are thinking economically. I now think in pure terms of monetary value, not emotion.
Let me give you an example: 99-00 UD Roberto Luongo Young Guns or Gold Reserve Young Guns book for $1.25. It's not even a Rookie.
In the last 3 weeks, I have sold one for $15.30 and another privately for $12.50. I still have 3 more to sell.
Some people will pay anything to have a specific card, and it's my job to find who they are, and what card they are willing to overpay for.
If you think in terms of cards being strictly a commodity, then you will be able to brush off that card that is priced too high, and find it later, at a cheaper price.

it has a $120 BV?!
I paid quite a bit less then that for my OPC Premier /10.
I think you may have overpaid by about $10 but it is a nice card and it is for your PC.

Overpayment, maybe. The 'economically' vs 'emotionally' is a good way to put it.
I am very guilty of overpaying for PC cards, when they become available. The only catch there is..... it's got to be something that I think there is a reasonable chance I won't see it again, and something I really want.
Without knowing your budget.... I'm guessing that $50 instead of $35 isn't going to break your bank.... and for the extra $15 you won't be kicking yourself in 6 months becuase you can't find another one. That's why I say "not a big deal", but it does really depend on your collecting habbits. If you're going to flip it in 6 months, or a year, I'll bet you would take a loss on it.
