    Potential Side-Collection Advice

I would like to try and have a side-collection on the go of a 2011 Draftee, Gabriel Landeskog or Jonathan Huberdeau, but do you think, in your opinion, that their cards will increase depending on which team selects them or will remain ‘pricey’ in general?

I don’t have a great deal of money to spend so I wouldn’t want to start and then have to stop. I know they are both going to be Top 5 picks so I’m guessing their cards are going to be expensive?!

You can always choose a player whose cards are not going to be that expensive. Collecting an 11/12 rookie is not a bad idea, but I can't tell you who to collect as I don't know all of the players that are probably going to be taken in the 3rd or 4th round etc.

It will likely depend on where they go. Most will stay up there in price but not a lot of big $$$$ for Florida guys.

Draftee/Prospect value is heavily dependent on hype, popularity, and impact. Playing for an original 6 market will only help a prospect if he's considered a blue chip regardless of his draft position and/or has made a significant impact in terms of performance.

An example is PK Subban. What made Subban a highly collectible commodity was his standout performance last year during the 09 playoffs. Prior to that, he was nothing more than a 2nd round pick with decent upside. Another one is James Reimer. His popularity and rise on the market is based on his 3 month performance from Jan-March. While yes, playing for the Leafs (or the Habs in Subban's case) does help in increasing their value, it only helps when they make a significant impact on the team. Otherwise, Reimer's rookie cards were just pennies at the start of this season even though he plays for an original 6 team.

I hope either get picked by Florida because of the money factor but I also want them to be drafted by someone else because they are two of my favourite kids in this years Draft.

Hope Landeskog goes to Colorado. I personally think he'll get on like a house on fire on Duchene's line.
