10/11 UD Mystery Redemption Info
Hi Everyone,
Thought that this could use its own post. I have read a lot of posts with people asking questions about the SPA Mystery Redemption's and this weekend I was at the UD Meet and Greet at the Toronto Expo and they gave some useful information.
As we all know last year a lot of people were very disappointed with their mystery redemption's. This year they have changed things up a bit;
If you have a mystery redemption you WILL get one of the cards off their current checklist. Rather than creating a new card for one that takes too long from an athlete they actually released a lower amount of cards with a list they ideally would like to have. So lets say there are 30 Prestigious Pairings cards with a count of 50 cards for each pair. This would come to 1500 total cards, pretty simple. This year rather than creating 1500 redemption cards they only created around 1300. This allows them to not get cards from 4 of the pairs and not have to add another player combo (think last year).
So what does this mean? If the card has been released already you are not likely to get it as a redemption. They would have been added to the product, the redemption's are for cards not yet received. It also means you are getting a card based off of their master list (see www.upperdeck.com) however not all of the cards on the list may be created. This also means you will not wait as long for your redemption's.
Overall, although I would like to know the actual players I am getting, the new system seems better thought out and should ship out much faster. UD created Mystery Redemption's as they were not sure when the cards were going to come back (multiple athletes are much more difficult to get hard signed). They have learned from their mistakes last year and have a much better system. I have 2 coming to me and I am excited to get them.
I will do my best to answer any other questions.

that's how they did it last year. whatever was on the checklist and not in packs was what you might get for a mystery redemption.

I was under the impression they added pairings last year off the list which people got upset about.

They did add pairings last year, and most were lower-tier, hence people's disappointment in them when they finally showed up.

That's what I thought too. That is where they went really really wrong. The old bait and switch. Needless to say they learned from it and won't be doing that again. Would be interesting to know which ones they did get back and which ones won't be made though!
