Returning Collector
Hello everyone. I am a returning collector from the late 80's/ early 90's and again in 2003. I was amazed when I started again in 2003 and saw all these GU/ autos and have been looking around here for any new trends. From what I can tell, it does not seem that too much has changed, though it appears GU's are not that important anymore. Has there been any other huge changes I may not be aware of?
I collect only football and baseball, and have a few questions.
What would be some good brands/ boxes to get? I have already ordered quite a few boxes (2011 A&G, 2011 Bowman Platinum, 2004 SP Prospects, 2011 Goodwin; and 2011 Press Pass Legends in football). I really like the idea of the A&G...it vaguely reminds me of Playoff Portraits in 2003 (my favorite cards ever at the time). Is there any other "fun" cards out there?
My long term goal is to get boxes that could possibly provide me with some options to recoup some of the costs of the box (I really enjoy busting boxes, reminds me of lottery tickets). With that being said, anyone have any suggestions/ tips I could use?
Thanks for the help!

Hey there Xolin,
Great to have you back......it is so difficult to leave for good isn't it???
The hobby hasn't changed too much as you have pointed out. The only thing I notice is that High-End is sort of expected with each box buy.....I think we have all been desensitized by 1/1's and the like. Prices have come down a bit on the whole. I think that is due to the economy and just how things like cards are a luxury most can't afford right now.
In terms of boxes and what you should buy it really depends on what you are looking for. Do you like RC's, Autos or GU. Are you a set collector or are you trying to go for the big hits?
I would recommend checking out the Breaks/Product review user each sport section. The people in there do a really good job of telling you what you are buying.
Thanks,
Billy
