Pretty much this. The only time it won't be numbered like that is if the card is numbered /9 or less, so really no way to fake it.

It would make no difference as it's remarkably easy to tamper with hand serial numbered cards. How do you think there's at least 10 Albert Pujols Chrome Auto RC's #5/500 now in the market (with several graded as well).

Writing serial numbers on a card doesn't add any collectibility for me, if anything it's takes away from it. I very much doubt I will be getting any Honorable Numbers from this year.

Well I am sure there is more incentive to turn a $4000 card into an $8000+ card then there is a $50 into $100. I dont doubt that its doable but if you happen to run into a card that you see have seen 2 identical serial numbers of then just stay away I guess... What makes me mad is hearing that about one of the greatest rookie cards of the last 10 years.
