Im a little stuck on this. im a sophomore in HS so i dont get to break a lot of stuff but for christmas id like to get a big thing out of the way. heres where you come in!

i have about 5 cards i can sell for $100 each and my parents usually put in about $300. heres the question i have always wanted to break a case and a tin of the cup but i cant do both

09-10 spa case $885
11-12 S1 case $780
11-12 certified 8 box case $752

or cup and few boxes?

what would you recommend?

S1 or Certified. I really think that the cup would deliver better return on investment, but you have to hit something people are willing to pay the money for. A RPA of a guy that's going to, effectively die in the farm, and is your 1 big hit, makes that $400 gamble a waste. But, if you are heavy into trading, and have a couple of players, and maybe a team you're chasing, I'd mix it up. Spx, S1, Certified, etc... You get more cracking bang for your buck, and more trade bait.

I've never busted any high end product. I can't justify the price tag versus my terrible box breaking luck. Ultimately, it depends on what you do as a card fan...

Are you a collector, or a box breaker/seller?

Most people with lower/mid range singles don't make a run at high end collectors because, well, if you can drop $400 on a single pack, chances are, you have already bought our "big" hit from SPA on the bay.

Then again, maybe that's why I'm the only guy here without even a single Cup base card...

Have to do a Tin of the Cup, there's nothing like it really, at least to me. The excitement of cracking a tin far outweighs cracking a box or 12 of UD, especially if you never have. You have to open at least 1! you could do 1 Tin of the Cup and One of Dominion with $800. Just depends if you like quality or quantity. But Id advise trying a Tin and making future judgements afterward.

I'd go with UD1. You'll get very close to a set of YGs, which is great from a collecting and resale standpoint (at least while the product is hot, anyway).

Also, it's great to rip wax, and you get tons of variety.

certified...mixture of jersey, and auto hits..plus those glass jersey card autos look amazing :)

you also get one hit in almost every pack except one i think

Let me help you put this in perspective for you.

As you said, you are a high school sophomore and I'm sure you would love to crack something like the Cup or Dominion. However, that is all you would get, 1 crack. With UD or Certified, you have multiple chances for good hits, case hits and other goodies.

Also, think about this. The Cup is extremely high risk with high reward if you hit a #/99 ARP for example. But what if you hit a Tommy Wingels ARP and you got a Patrice Cormier Signature Patches, a Tyler Bozak Enshirements Auto, 2 base and a base parallel #/25?

You would have a much better chance of getting appropriate value from the product if you went UD1 or Certified. Less risk, but if you don't hit something massive, you still have Young Guns, jersey cards, autos, etc to trade for your wants.


If I were in your shoes, I'd go with a UD1 case, you should get at least 1 RNH Young Gun, plus the Canvas Cards are going to be sought after by set builders.

UD1 case. It will be more fun ripping so many packs, a chance at some good YGs and putting together the base set. Reward is the time put into sorting all the cards and hopefuly you get an exclusive or high gloss of a good rookie. But if not, you'll have a collection to work with still.

Opening a tin lasts 3 minutes. Reward is of course one of the /99 ARPs. But afraid if you don't get what you want, you will feel terrible.
