Bill's Baseball HOF Autograph Collection and future HOF
UPDATE....This thread is from February when I had 183 Guys. Then last updated in comments in early summer with 188. Now I'm at 207!
Hi all,
Posted on this forum a while back when I was more into the HOF gu collecting. I decided to sell and focus ONLY on Autographs for HOF'ers and, in my opinion, current & retired players that have HOF numbers. I have only been collecting 3-4 years, but it has been quite a ride. Autograph collecting as you know is iffy. There are many forgeries. To avoid this, all of my Autos are PSA/DNA, JSA, or authenticated from a major card manufacturer (ie Donruss/UD/Topps,etc).
As of Feb 2012, I am at 183 of the 297 HOF members. This is a tad over 61%. There are probably about 80-85 members who are nearly impossible to get and will cost thousands or tens of thousands each. They include the rare Negro League, 19th century players/pioneers, and players that died in the first part of the 20th century at a young age. There are another 10-15 major HOF'ers that just cost too much for me at this point, but are relatively common (Ruth, Cobb, Cy Young, WJohnson, etc). This puts me at around 190-200 players that could be had for about $750 or less. Some guys that I am missing to hit that mark would be: P Waner, B Evans, W O'Malley, B Rickey, M Ott, K Landis, T Yawkey, N Chylak, H Heilmann, J Bottomley, Larry MacPhail, and R Maranville. I would expect these guys to join the collection within the next few years, and I must one day bite the bullet with Ruth.
I also have at least 50 other guys that have HOF numbers, and should be in the HOF. (Rose, Griffey, Jeter, Pujols, Bagwell, Rivera, etc....). Only guy I really need in my mind is Ichiro.
Since my collection is put away safely, I have a digital frame to which I made a sort of slideshow. I have also made a free site using these slides, and I will post them here. I hope to update here for new additions. If there are any others who collect the same, please chime in...Love to hear from you and possibly link your site or bucket to my site.
