It is mostly due to speculators and the growth in our economy(figure that one out HA!)

If our economy "grows", then the investors will come out and buy up various items. Hence, drive the prices forward.

they dont want to get poor, thats why they buy up every thing. every thing go's up except the paycheck right???????

I am having a hard time accepting that the gas companies have no control over prices. In a time when the economy is struggling, companies are downsizing and laying off, companies are going bankrupt and entire industries are making cuts just to stay afloat, companies like Exxon Mobile are recording record setting profits and banking nearly a half a trillion in profits.

The idea that Exxon Mobile is just along for the ride and profiting over $1 billion a day is somewhere between unbelievable and an outright joke to me.

I know I went from filling up using my credit card every time. Now I have to pay in cash. Too much debt on the CC from not working. Can't wait to get back to work so I can pay everything I owe off.

Where do you think Exxon makes most of its money, from gasoline sales?

You folks don't seem to understand gas prices. American oil companies have a very low margin on them and very little control over the price of crude.

If im not mistaken our federal government makes more off the sale of a gallon of gas than the oil companies.

Yes. Federal excise taxes are 18.4 cents/gallon. State excise taxes are 22-23 cents/gallon. Crude is about $2.60/gallon. Oil company profit is 2-3 cents/gallon. Refining, marketing, and transportation costs make up the rest.
