    Any High School Baseball players?

I was just wondering how many HS players are on the site. Next year I'm going to be a pitcher for Varsity if I stay healthy. I'm going to be a sophmore next year.

I used to play in high school, now I'm an assistant coach. Good luck on making the Varsity team next year as a sophomore! What pitches do you throw?

I throw a 2 seam fastball, change-up, 12-6 curve and occasionally a slider. I have hit 84 MPH on a radar gun with the my fastball, but it normally sits around 77 or 78 and the change sits around 72 or 73. My curve is about high 60's or low 70's, and I didn't throw my slider when I was getting clocked, because it's by far my worst pitch and is very innaccurate.

I played in high school, but that was 5 years ago. Good luck!

Threw a complete game shut out today with the Varsity coach watching, so that's a very good sign.

Great Job! One of the hardest things to do is pitch when someone is watching just you, so you should be proud of that. I also like your repitoire of pitches, but I would work on throwing a 4 seam fastball or a circle change-up. You would be amazed at how the circle change-up with the fastball arm action (don't slow your arm down when you throw the change-up) can fool hitters. That 5 to 7 mph speed drop makes all the difference. Just ask Greg Maddux, one of the greatest pitchers of all time who threw a nasty change-up.

I've been trying to incorporate a circle change, but I haven't had much luck with it so far, but i'm going to continue to work with it. Right now my main focus has been improving my slider so I'm able to throw it consistently during games when I get into trouble. Not many people my age have throw a slider, so that would give me the one-up on several hitters who have faced little to no sliders.

Where do you live? Our guys throw sliders all the time.

Ah, must be a regional thing then.
