My first impressions is that it looks nearly identical to last year, minus the RPAs and shields.

    The nitpicky stuff:

The only thing I wish UD did with the RPAs is bigger patch windows. I'm not crazy over the design of the patch window itself, but the overall design of the card is phenomenal.

Although the vertical shields do look good, I'm worried about the space for the autos. It doesn't look like there's a lot of room for them, and that a lot of the autos will run onto the player picture... It'll be interesting to see them live though!

My first thoughts exactly, not that I'm complaining, as I'm sure I will chase some hot singles as I always do.

Does nobody have concerns about the price point being unjustified for a product that, in terms of content, looks like it's nearly identical to last year's but has a far, far weaker rookie class? I'm thinking this is the year that Dominion may blow The Cup away - and can't believe that I'm even saying that since I thought Dominion was a massive letdown last year. We shall see...

Dominion was great last year. The prices on the secondary market weren't so good but that isn't their fault. That is the collectors fault for only wanting UD. Means a sick Dominion RPA /99 sells for less than half the smaller patch The Cup RPA /99 does.

Dominion was a very stellar product to those who opened it or collected it for hobby purposes, not for the huge monster resale value. I think Vegas has done an excellent job spearheading it this year as well.

As far as resale, tell that to my OELs.... They are way more expensive LOL

And that's what makes the hobby so interesting! I personally look for a nice balance between quality of the cards, design/interesting hits, and value, and frankly Dominion left me wanting on all fronts - but obviously there were many that disagreed with me! However, I'm always keeping my mind open and with Panini ramping it up this year, I think this may be the year that UD really has some true competition in the high-end arena, and that's a good thing! I am interested to hear what people think about UD's actual insert mix this year in The Cup (so far) - last year, from a straight dollar-recovery point of view, the deep rookie class made it very possible to do quite well on the Cup if you bought early. My guess is that this year, with a far weaker rookie class and me not seeing anything (again, so far) that indicates UD has content that would be considered new or innovative, The Cup doesn't hold up. I hope I'm wrong.

I would also have to say that I really liked Dominion last year. I wasn't so hot on their putting some many dollar jerseys into a product like that, but my breaks were fun, and the values on the secondary market just meant that I went on a bit of a spending spree, grabbing nice stuff left, right, and center. That's not to say I don't enjoy The Cup, though. I cracked my first few tins of it last year, and while a few I opened near the end of my breaking were pretty sour, I was warmly welcomed to the Cup breaking experience by hitting a Malkin/Fleury dual signature patches /35 and a Gretzky scripted sticks redemption (now perhaps the nicest card in my pc) in the same tin! Both products are loaded, but as always, it's hit or miss. You can't expect big things in a break, ever. :)
