2004-2005 Upperdeck Series 1
I'm thinking about buying a box of 2004-2005 Series 1 upperdeck hockey cards. I can get a box for $ 112.00
Just wondering if it's worth buying or not?
Are there any good cards or it's not worth buying?
Please let me know
Thank you

Not at that price. The 04-05 had some HOF Young Guns SP's that went well, but it had some dire cards otherwise.
Nowhere near as good as 02-03 Upper Deck, or 03-04 UD. I would not pay any more than $60.00 per Hobby Box, as you won't get a thing but base if it is Retail. The retail boxes from 03-04 had nothing in them, and they didn't even have the Young Guns percentage that you now get.
$112.00 is not a good price.
There is a 02-03 UD Series 2 Hobby Box on eBay in the mid $50.00 range, and another at $72.00 that are way better buys and better cards than this 04-05 at $112.00.
This 04-05 UD, the best card is the Gretzky YG Booking at $40.00. If you don't get a Gretz, Roy, or Yzerman YG, then you will be out a ton of dough.
The Playmakers jerseys were OK, but only Hobby Box, and Only one per if that.Last edited by centrehice; 08-09-2012 at 06:58 PM.

Don't listen to naysayers, the hobby version of 2004-05 Upper Deck Series 1 is one of Upper Deck's finest products in my opinion. Very short-printed and loaded with hits, I have personally pulled two different high glosses (#/5), (#/10), Canadian exclusives of Howe and Messier, both booking and selling high to the right people, and several valuable jersey cards (I only pulled those in my first break of it). $100-$120 is not an excellent price, but that is what they seem to be going for, and they will destroy almost anything that you could get from 2006-07 to now.
Here is the second box of it that I opened. I no longer have scans of the first, but I did pull an Yzerman High Gloss in the first one.

Hence the reason for me mentioning the 02-03 UD Series 2 Hobby Boxes on eBay for half that price.
Those 04-05 UD Hobby Boxes sold for a flat $50.00 when they came out and nary a penny more.

There are some nice cards in that set, for sure, but I would agree with centrehice here. Unless you really kill the odds and get a HG of someone really big, $112 is way to much for that box, IMO. That was the lockout year. There are only like 2 or 3 rookies in it, and they're no-names. The HOF Young Guns sell well, but I doubt you'd get even $40 for the Gretzky, and that's the best card in the set.
The 02-03 and 03-04 are much stronger years. Not sure what a box of 02-03 would run for these days..... but there are two cards (Zetterberg & Nash) that have three figure price tags, and about a dozen more that all sell for $40+ (Yes, they are all SSPs).

If you're looking for re-sale value, over $110 for a single box of 2004-05 Upper Deck Series 1 is way too much. I wouldn't even pay $80 for it.

dacardworld has been in and out of stock on these boxes around $85 for quite some time now...not sure if shipping to Canada is more than it is to U.S. from them
