Opinions on fun vs. value when it comes to breaking boxes

Hey guys, I am trying to recommend a gift for someone (hockey box) and he says he either wants 11/12 ultimate, 11/12 SPA, or 11/12 titanium. I was thinking about the pros and cons of each one; ulitmate is short and sweet but from what I've seen has better hits, SPA has the weekest hits of the 3 but very good potential and is a fun, long break, while titanium lacks potential, middle length break, but has 5 quality hits.

I was thinking for a bit, and that brought me to my question. When buying a box, how much do you value the fun of opening a box versus the potential hits inside? This same argument coul dbe made for people having their boxes opened online instead of by themselves.

Again, SPa is gonna be the longest break, and will likely be the most fun, but will opening up ultimate and (potentially) recieving better hits out weigh the fun of the break??

    Thanks!

I really want to have fun and enjoy the boxes I open. For me, since I am not doing this as a way to make money, I want to enjoy the cards I am opening. Do I enjoy big hits? OF COURSE! But there's more than just that for me. With that said, I think Titanium would be a good route to go. More than 1 pack like Ultimate, but with a hit in every pack. SPA is just a whole lot of base.

Titanium has a lot more potential than what you may think. Out of those, the one that will net you the best possible return value is Titanium or Ultimate. I'd still say Score mainly because it's fun and there are huge hits in it :p out of those three, Id say titanium. There are too many good hits in titanium and very few boxes are bad, same with ultimate.

    Thanks for the help guys!

I agree with you on titanium as that was what I was leaning towards, however, potential wise I'm just nto quite sure. I know its a overall safe product but it lacks bigger hits besides the rookies. SPa and ultimate have orr, gretzky, etc. Just an overall better potential IMO.

and tivo, thats kinda the question I'm asking. Is ultimate worth opening when titanium or SPa are more fun breaks?

    Thanks guys!

I had a lot of fun with Ultimate. I've opened 3 boxes of it and to me, the kind of nervous excitement you get knowing it's 1 pack and there's a potential for something HUGE in it is what makes it fun. It's a bit of a gamble because it is 1 pack, but at $100 it isn't a huge loss if you get a bad box. With Titanium being around $85 a box right now, I think it's a tremendous buy for that price. I would steer VERY clear of SP Authentic. I did not enjoy that break at all and it seemed very miss this year.

Ultimate is more a product for someone that is a hardcore sports collector and just wants to test their luck with it since you can get a big stinker. Titanium is perhaps the most enjoyable of the 3 products you have to choose from since you get something in each pack and have the potential to get something really shiny. SPA is the most boring break out of any product for any sport. The end.

Depends on the type of collector you are buying for. Younger collectors or novice will not care about value and you will find they will spend more time looking at a base card of their favorite player ( Crosby ) than a GU or Auto of a player they have no interest in ( Derek Roy ).

If the above is the case I would buy then something you have base in that way you can help them build a set. Upper Deck series one or two are great for this. ^ YGs 2 GU per box plus inserts.
