It's all about cost. Canadians are only allowed $15.00 Duty Free. A piece like this may net thousands if a true value is attached. The Douane at home want their pound of flesh, and will do whatever it takes to get it.

It's not about cost, it is actully about export controls and customs regulations regarding dead and preserved animals. It is illegal to transport live or dead animals/insects even if they are preserved. Not trying to stop anyone from helping the poster but be very aware that the fines and penalties could be very stiff including jail time if your caught. Be sure to look into it first and talk to the post office about the regulations.

Hopefully the linc works, but this is how silly it can get

Actually, I contacted UD via phone to ask about the redemption issue. They are the source that suggested that I have it sent to a US postal address and then have it mailed to Canada

Of course they would, once they ship it to a US address it's not there problem if something happens, try to get them to write that in an email..... It's your risk

    Tyler,

If you are close to Toronto I can redeem it and bring it to you. I will be going to the Fall Expo.

Something like this would probably be less nerve-wracking than trusting customs by mail. Get someone close to you to drive it up, or even someone close to the border willing to drive it up and send it through CP only, if you're nowhere near anyone.
