First time submitting cards for grading

Hi. This is my first time submitting cards to a grading service (BGS), so I just wanted to ask some quick questions to avoid any problems.

What must be filled out for Owner's Declared Value?

Will BGS break PSA or SGC slabs if you submit cards in them fro grading? If so, is there a charge?

BGS does not reccommend submitting cards in top loaders and bubble mailers? Will they still accept them if do though?

    Thanks in advance.

If you live in the states, then just put the value of the card since they insure it for you when they send it out.

You can send through top loaders but the card might come out of the loader when you send it via mail. The best is those flexible card saver type of holders that holds the card well in the holder.

This is the second post I've read today asking about breaking PSA graded cards to have BGS re-grade. Why would someone do that? I though PSA was considered the holy grail.

PSA is not. BGS is the future since its from Beckett. Plus, PSA got their reputation tainted from a scandal awhile back.

I would say it's the half-grades and subgrades from Beckett. Plus I think it's widely recognized that Beckett's a bit stricter in general. For instance a PSA 10 is approximately a BGS 9.5 and PSA 9 a BGS 8.5.

Ok...I'm going to give you a little horror story of mine that will make you change your mind about having them break your card out of its holder.

A couple years ago I bought a Tiger Woods SI for Kids RC graded 8 by SGC. I sent it to PSA thinking they'd just pop it out and put it in an 8 holder. It came back a 6. I still have it to this day. I cringe everytime I look at it. I guess they thought they'd show me who the big time grading company was by showing how much harder their standards are compared to others. I'm pissed.

To the guy that asked if PSA was the holy grail. They're not. BGS is. They have much tougher standards and are less likely to give gem mint grades than PSA.
