    William Osser Xavier Cook

    • October 9, 1896 – April 6, 1986
    • Playing career: 1922–1937
    • Played for: Saskatoon Crescents, New York Rangers
    • Hall of Fame: Hockey Hall of Fame in 1952, Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 1975
    • Awards: Stanley Cup (1928, 1933), Art Ross Trophy (1927, 1933)
    • 100 Ranger Greats: nr.5 Bill Cook
    • Bill Cook was officially the first player signed by the New York Rangers.
    • Known as "The Original Ranger", Cook was the first captain of the New York Rangers.
    • Scored the first goal in franchise history of the New York Rangers.
    • Scored the championship winning goal, in overtime, in the fourth game in the 1933 Stanley Cup Finals against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
    • The Hockey News ranked Cook as the 44th greatest player in NHL history, and highest Ranger on the list, in its 1998 book The Top 100 NHL Players of All Time.
