Today in Nascar History March 21st:

Winners on this date: Herb Thomas, Richard Petty, David Pearson, Darrell Waltrip, Jeff Burton, and Jimmie Johnson (2 times).

March 21st, 1999: Jeff Burton becomes perhaps the luckiest and most bizarre winner in Nascar history after the 400 miler at Darlington is called on lap 163 due to a thunderstorm. As the rains start falling leader Burton gets involved in a big melee on the frontstretch destroying his car. Burton limps around with the mangled heap under caution in the lead and is in the same position when the race is called under the red, giving him the ultimate rain gift victory.

March 21st, 2010: Jimmie Johnson takes advantage of a late race restart to get past the dominant car of the day in Kurt Busch and takes the checkers at Bristol for the first time in his career. Along with it being JJ's 3rd win in the first 5 races of 2010, it is his 50th career win, tying him with Ned Jarrett and Junior Johnson on the all-time win list.

March 24th, 2013: In a spectacular and wild race at Auto Club Speedway Kyle Busch scores the first victory for Toyota at the facility and completes a sweep of the weekend. Busch’s 25th career win happens largely due to the last lap duel between newfound rivals Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano, who end up wrecking eachother in a wild melee out of turn 4 on the final lap which sends Hamlin to the hospital. Logano also draws the ire of Tony Stewart who goes after him post-race much to the delight of the California fans.

    Last 12 Laps (worth watching)

March 25th, 2007: Kyle Busch holds off Jeff Burton to win at Bristol. It is the first race for Nascar's brand new Car of Tomorrow or COT racecar, a car with more safety features and a wing on the back instead of a spoiler. Busch says they suck in victory lane.
