As usual people are confusing Jews with Christians.
Jews = old covenant with God, fulfilled by Jesus
one of Jesus' take on this
[QUOTE]And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”[QUOTE]
and Jesus talking about the Jews
[QUOTE] He said to them, “Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.”[QUOTE]

The Jews were the only society on Earth that were not Uphill Gardening. The Messianic void the Jews were looking for was NOT fulfilled by jesus.
It was not until well into the Roman Empire's time of Constantine's dynasty that people ever considered a young boy for anything but pleasure. Asexuality was the norm, or bi-sexuality if you have it. It was practiced on the Earth until a man wanted to procreate, then he required a woman.
You need to look at what actually happened in society, not the 2nd Big Book of fiction. Jewish society was the originator of the rules of sexual engagement of one man, one woman, not the new cultist that came along.Last edited by centrehice; 03-01-2013 at 11:02 AM.

Maybe you need to look at Rome and think they were the norm, but they were not, most were sick and twisted, power hungry, immoral men.
getting back to the thread, the thread cited marriage laws of the Jews and said they were Christian, I pointed out they were not Christian at all, there is truly only one way to know Christianity and that is by Jesus' teachings, not Jewish teachings and not apostle's teaching, just Jesus.
but I do agree that the NT is not the end all when it comes to religion

Not just Rome, everywhere. Complete sexuality was the norm. Until christians started to use paranoia & threats of places like hell and attached them to behaviour and scared uneducated people half to death did things slowly start to change.
Remember, christianity and islam are predicated on bodily harm, psychological harm, paranoia and fear.

maybe the man made Christianity, but not the teachings of Jesus. If God wanted you afraid, you would be afraid.
and if you think having sex with young boys is the norm, then no matter what I say will not seem normal to you, because it would be obvious your idea of normal is corrupt.
and remember, Jesus taught equality, love, and respect. He did not treat women as property, like the Jews already did and Muslims would do
again, you are stereotyping everyone in every way

christianity is what took over, nothing to do with jesus. How else do you explain the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, Sahladin fighting against christians with armies well over 150,000.
Conform or die was the activity of the day for 800 years.

now you are back to the church, not the teachings of Jesus.
the difference here is you cannot separate the bad from the good. One bad police officer doesn't make every cop in the country bad, in fact 1 million bad police officers do not make every cop in the country bad.
Man created church, man used church and religion for their own gain, man kills to keep that power, but these are all human things and not what Jesus taught and His teachings are the real Christianity, not what men did with it.

veggie, look at the old Testament and the Koran, women are listed as property, right along with homes, mules, and other things.
I am not stereotyping, I am explaining the differences in religion. Jews go by the laws of Moses, the laws of Moses says women are property. Islam goes by the teachings of Muhammad who treated women worse than donkey's. In fact his own wife wrote about how she was below a mule in the eyes of Islam. Facts are facts, stereotyping is loosely based on facts.
