Atheist church in London drawing standing room only crowds

I must ask this question. Why in the hell if atheist do not believe in the concept of God, Jesus, church, etc, do they insist on going to a formal ceremony mimicking what the church does? None of us believe in Santa Claus (if you still do this does not apply to you) and therefore do not go out and do the things we did as a kid to hope that he will come by and bring us toys. So why if you don't believe in God would you go through all the same actions of someone who does? IMO I think that the marjority of people who go there are not true hardcore atheists and they are clamoring for something to follow or believe in. They could possibly find God at some point in their lives.

Atheists are human beings just like christians. As such they too have a need to "belong". What appears to be a joke to mock religion (it was started and organized by comedians), has turned into just another event that satisfies a basic human desire.

They can meet up at a ballgame, have a trading card group, or go volunteer for war vetrans. No my friend deep down they are looking for God in all the wrong places.

Since atheism is a non belief, do they just show up and stand in silence?

A church is the wrong place? For once, we agree.

I imagine they all take turns mocking the silly rituals performed in real church services.

Without realizing that becomes a silly ritual of their own.

If you mock something enough, you inevitably become that thing.

Church is in your heart not a concrete building. And yes it is the wrong place if they are going with the intentions of mocking God. I don't believe in the tooth fairy but I will not give 2 hours of my life that I can never get back mocking her.

Sounds like they are spending 2 hours of their week ENJOYING themselves. No harm, no foul.
