Seems to me there is not homework to be done.

Here's what I was talking about. DOMA prevents them from being treated as spouses and, thus, costs the individuals money they should not have to pay.

As for actual marriage, if they can't get married then they're denied the ability to not pay over $350,000 (or whatever the number) they really shouldn't have to because of their sex, because they'd be married if they could.

Basically telling two consenting adults who would marry that they can't, and then using that to collect more taxes is flat out wrong.

    Essentially it's convoluted discrimination.

Hmm..you need me to look over the med benefits and insurance policies too?

Ok, simple google search and 20 minutes of reading here because I'm not a tax accountant.

But...thanks for making me do that. I learned that there's benefits/penalties to both being single and married.

Seems the kids are where the $$ is at!!

Anyway, not sure what you're arguing with me about since we agree on the gay marriage deal...you could've done the research on your own if you had questions.

The bold is my case and point, the only thing I'm trying to point out.

Ok, thank you. So there is actually a benefit excluded to single people, that you may have to pay property tax to obtain the property that you and you're partner lived on? Did I skim over that right?

To tell you the truth, it is possible she didn't take the proper precautions and blames it on DOMA.
"Thus, she claims, the Defense of Marriage Act, which prevents her from being considered Spyer’s spouse for the purposes of federal taxes, literally cost her $363,053."

Plus she probably won't even end up having to pay it, which should make most of the people on here mad, because rich people should always pay more in taxes right?

I don't think you're getting what I'm saying here, and I already responded to that link 2 pages ago.
"She most likley will get that money back, plus this link doesn't explain anything, it just says that "she claims that if she was with a man she wouldn't have had to pay this" without giving proof. but this still doesn't answer why people don't get married on purpose so they can pay less taxes. Can anyone explain this?"

What I'm saying is that if gay couples have the right to get married, which they do, and there is an = amount of benefits for single and married people, then what is the gay rights activism about? I'm not trying to argue at all, just trying to understand.

Maybe. All I know is you were pointed to this a couple pages ago and I had to spoonfeed you this.
