Seriously upper deck.....
Ok I'm not here to bash upper deck, more of a rant actually and question. Upper deck has made super boxes for Michael Jordan and now tiger woods, why don't they make one for the greatest hockey player in history Wayne Gretzky! If only they knew how fast a box like that would sell! What do you guys think?

They made 4 of them in the years 1998-2000.
The Gretzky Collection (The Big One) was sold for $2500.00 each box. It contained short print serial numbered cards, Game-Used SP's, I think the lowest number was #/25, but very unique.
Gretzky was the first, before Jordan and Woods.

There's some different logistical issues involved with a Gretzky box than with Tiger or MJ.
1. Availability of memorabilia - UD has just the one Gretzky Oilers jersey as far as I know. They are very tight when it comes to using his Edmonton memorabilia. Yes they have Kings & Rangers stuff that they use more regularly, but people will want premium pieces of Oilers memorabilia and that is in short supply for them.
2. Scheduling autograph sessions - I don't know about MJ and Tiger, but Gretzky does a couple of sessions per year, tops, with UD. He has frequently been a redemption in their regular high-end products in recent years as it is. People will expect 100% live autographs in a product of this nature.
3. They've done a handful of Gretzky-specific products around the time of his retirement that had some pretty limited edition cards in them.

Those three things being said, I think it would be a fantastic way for people to get their hands on some very cool Gretzky cards.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Or even if they did one of those boxes with a hockey signed jersey would be fun

The UD Gretzky Collection had all kinds of Jerseys in them. A few hit eBay, but most was scooped-up by collectors. There were 25 or more different types of Gretzky card in this set. Almost Every card had an auto or G-U or the combination of the two.

Upper Deck made the Woods and Jordan because they are hurting for money and need products that can get them fast cash and sell for a high amount. Not taking anything away from Gretzky but Jordan and Woods sell all over the world while hockey is popular in Canada, Europe, and the US.

Sorry, but Hockey has a ton more followers than Tiger. People are now tuned in to Tiger in hopes of another Train-Wreck, the others are just Ball-Washers.

Tiger Woods has one of if not the highest priced autographs of any athlete that has appeared in years worth of sets. Golf also has one of if not the richest fan bases on the planet. I would also guess that he is more well known world wide than Gretzky as well. All those make sense for UD making a super high end set of just him (which they haven't done yet). Also UD has Jordan and Woods as exclusives. Gretzky I don't know about.
