I remember when the Gretzky "super packs" came out. I couldn't afford them then, so stood by and watched some great and unique cards being pulled with almost all of those cards never surfacing again on ebay. It was a great product and perhaps its time has come again...

Jordan doesn't sign much at all and I've talked to UD in the past and heard their complaints about him not fulfilling his contractual obligations to sign memorabilia...or at least not signing things on time since he'll sign a limited number of things only, when he does sign.

I don't think Gretzky has that issue and his autographs are more readily found.

I can't say about Tiger although I do know that when his first contract with Nike expired, only then was he able to sign shirts and he only signs a limited numbers of shirts every year which of course drives up their value. I'm referring to autographs right on the shirt, as opposed to the first awful versions that came out where he signed on top of some thicker paper that went across the front of the shirt and looked terrible.

As an example of the limited number of shirts Tiger signs, one of his first signed shirts came out with a finite number of 250...but he's only signing 25/year. So the first year shirts were numbered out of 250...but the only numbers available that year were #1 to #25/250. I can't comment on his autographed cards but my sense of it is that he doesn't sign many of them either.

UD made the Gretzky Master Collection right around the time he retired and while game-used cards were still booming. As much as I love Gretzky and would LOVE to see another set like that made I really doubt it's feasible for UD at this time.

Theres a reason UD can sell Tiger and Jordan collections for $3,000 or more and its because they are worldwide megastars and their most basic autos still routinely sell for $400 and up. You can get a Gretzky auto for a fraction of that if you're patient. I can't see people paying anywhere near as much for another Gretzky collection. As a hockey fan I hope I'm wrong though.

Anyone who thinks Gretzky is anywhere near the level of Tiger and Jordan when it comes to stardom is delusional.

    I didn't say Gretzky, I said Hockey.

Hockey has been around for well over 100 years not so with Tiger and Jordan.

I'm pretty sure golf has been around longer than hockey and many other sports as well

The age of a sport is no indicator of its fans base :)

Golf is an old sport also, basketball not so much but it's big in other countries and HUGE in Asia. Basketball fans in Asia alone could outnumber today's hockey fans.

Hockey cards are mostly collected in North America and parts of Europe, that's it. As hockey collectors we have it relatively easy when it comes to competing for cards. I like it that way :)
