I've seen guesses lower than the amount I put in the first post many times

Proof that people in general do not follow instructions well.
    Always Looking for:

    A) Graded Vintage (Pre-1980) (BGS, BVG, PSA, SGC) in all sports
    B) Graded True RC's (No inserts or parallels) (BGS, PSA, SGC) in all sports
    C) Certified Auto and GU cards of players from the 70's and further back in all sports

What the hell is wrong with people? a different seller had the same card listed for a BIN of 18950 that ended two days before this auction ended and NO ONE bought it. I know they weren't the same card, but they were both PSA 9. There couldn't have been that much a different to justify a 12k bump.

People in general? Isn't that a broad over generalization?

Well, first of all, the listing was ended by the seller, so there's a very good possibility it was sold. For how much, who knows? Secondly, the Gibson that ended at $30,000 was listed by a very well known seller of graded vintage with enormous feedback. The second Gibson was being offered by a seller with a feedback of 26, the last sale being a year ago. So, in all likelihood, the higher seller had a large customer base and a much stronger reputation, when combined, resulted in a significantly larger sale. It doesn't mean thesre is anything "wrong with people" or that shilling occurred. The two listings are not an apples to apples comparison.

I do feel that most people do not follow directions. You disagree?

That's a wide open statement with no real answer. If you directed me to jump off a bridge, no I would not follow the directions, nor, do I believe, would most people would. So, in that case, no, most people probably don't follow the directions. On the other hand, if the direction is to drive on the right hand side of the road, I would say most people do follow the directions. Sometimes it's a matter of comprehending the directions, as we saw with the latest contest, one individual guessed an amount lower than the starting bid while another bid after the close and still missed the mark significantly. One followed the directions, the other didn't. In any event, I'm in no position to determine how most people respond to directions, in general. From what I saw in this contest, all but one followed the rules. That's a far cry from "most".

Maybe he should have should consigned with the well known seller and been done with it. And no, it wasn't sold. It's relisted for almost 29k now.

My comment was not specifically regarding the contest. I am a Management Consultant and I have a quiz I give people to see how well they follow instructions. The results are generally rather poor.
