    Today in Nascar History July 11th:

    Winners on this date: Red Byron, Lee Petty (2 times), Jimmy Pardue, Bobby Allison, Richard Petty, Charlie Glotzbach, Darrell Waltrip, Rusty Wallace, Jeff Burton, Tony Stewart, and Mark Martin.

    July 11th, 1971: Charlie Glotzbach, with some relief driving done during the event by Friday Hassler, wins the Volunteer 500 at Bristol. The race is run without a caution flag and it is Chevy's first Nascar win since 1967.



    July11th, 1981: Darrell Waltrip dominates the Nashville 420 and wins his hometown event. A young up and coming driver named Mark Martin stuns everyone by sitting on the pole and finishing 11th in only his 3rd career Cup Series start.



    July11th, 1993: Rusty Wallace passes Davey Allison in the late laps to win the inaugural event at the brand new New Hampshire International Speedway. Sadly,this was Allison's last race :(



    July 11th, 2009: Mark Martin dominates the field at Chicagoland leading 195 laps en route to his 4th win of the season. The 50 year old overcomes a late restart in which he got shuffled from the lead and regains the top spot late in the going to win.

    Winners on this date: Herb Thomas, Marvin Panch, Jim Paschal, Billy Wade, Bobby Allison, Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, Jeff Burton, and Kyle Busch.

    July 12th, 2008: Kyle Busch snookers the leader and dominant car of the day driven by Jimmie Johnson on a restart with 2 laps to go to win at Chicagoland. Busch holds on to take his 7th win of what is a breakout year for the Shrub.

    Overall pretty slow day-Newman’s win was in Chicago on gas mileage and Burton’s was at Loudon.

    Winners on this date: Marvin Panch (2 times), Eddie Pagan, Richard Petty (2 times), Ned Jarrett, David Pearson, LeeRoy Yarbrough, Cale Yarborough, Darrell Waltrip, Geoff Bodine, Ernie Irvan, Kevin Harvick, and Brian Vickers.

    July 14th, 1996: Ernie Irvan completes his miraculous comeback from near death after a practice crash at Michigan in 1994 to win at New Hampshire, his first victory since his comeback.





    July 14th, 2002: Kevin Harvick overcomes spinning through the grass midway through the event to win his 2nd straight race at Chicagoland Speedway.




    July 14th, 2013: Brian Vickers pulls off a massive upset at New Hampshire to score the victory snapping a 75 race winless streak for himself. The part time driver of the MWR 55 blows past Tony Stewart late in the race and holds off Kyle Busch on a GWC restart to score the win, the first for a part time competitor since Brad Keselowski at Talladega in 2009. Vickers' win is the first since for him since returning from past health issues and almost assures him a full time ride for MWR for the 2014 season.

    July 16th, 1995: Dale Jarrett and Jeff Gordon have a terrific battle late in the going at Pocono with Jarrett coming out on top to score his first win since joining Robert Yates Racing in the famed #28 car.





    July 16th, 2006: Kyle Busch holds off a hard charging Carl Edwards on the final lap to win at New Hampshire.





    July 16th, 2011: Kyle Busch wins the Nascar Nationwide Series race at New Hampshire tying Mark Martin's NNS record of 49 career victories. It is Kyle's 100th overall win across Nascar's top 3 series.

    July 17th, 2011: Ryan Newman uses track position, a fast car, and strategy to claim the win at New Hampshire, leading a Stewart Haas Racing 1-2 across the line, the first ever for the team.



    July 17th, 2016: Matt Kenseth takes the lead late in the race and avoids the late race restart chaos to take the victory at New Hampshire, the 38th of his career.

    July 18th, 1958: Richard Petty makes his 1st career Nascar Grand National (Cup) Series start in the 100 mile race at Canadian National Exposition Speedway in Toronto, Canada. The 21 year old finishes 17th out of 19 cars after crashing midway through the event.

    Today in Nascar History July 19th:

    Winners on this date: Jim Reed, Fireball Roberts, Billy Wade, Bobby Allison, Dale Earnhardt, and Darrell Waltrip.

    July 19th, 1964: Billy Wade makes it 4 consecutive victories in 1964 by winning at Watkins Glen. The 2nd year driver becomes the first Nascar driver ever to win 4 consecutive Grand National Races.





    July 19th, 1992: Darrell Waltrip wins at Pocono despite making contact with Davey Allison earlier in the race which sends Allison into a horrific roll on the backstretch in one of the worst looking crashes in Nascar history.

    July 20th, 1962: Joe Weatherly wins the 100 mile race at Savannah, GA. African American driver Wendell Scott earns his first career pole and leads the field to green and goes onto finish 8th in the race.





    July 20th, 1969: David Pearson survives a demolition derby in the Volunteer 500 at Bristol to take the win. It is the first race with the newly redesigned turns which are banked at 36 degrees.
