2016 Topps Triple Threads baseball hobby box for review

First and foremost, I'd like to thank our sponsors at Topps for providing us with this box.

If your familiar with the longest running high end product offered by Topps you know Topps Baseball Triple Threads can deliver some insane and aesthetically pleasing hits. The base set consists of a 100 cards with seven various parallels numbered from 340 to 1/1 Onyx's and printing plates. They are on a thick stock and are appealing.

The checklist can be found here:

    Product Configuration:
    7 cards per pack
    2 packs per box

    Current Retail Price (online): $140 - $165

There are two types of pack that can be found in this product:
    Pack Break "Version 1"

    1 Triple Relic Card
1 Triple Threads Unity Single Jumbo or 1 Autographed Rookie
    2 Base Parallels
    3 Base Cards

    Pack Break "Version 2"

    1 Autographed Triple Relic Card
1 Triple Threads Unity Jumbo Relic
    2 Base Parallels
    3 Base Cards

One can only dream of opening a pack, box, or case of what possibly could be unearthed in this product. The artwork and designs are stunning on a thick stock. So be prepared to be buying some thick sleeves and cardholders. One might need to invest into some booklets as well if you're lucky enough to pull one.

With a price tag per box averaging $150 and yielding only 7 cards per mini box and 14 cards total, your're looking at a high end product. This price will keep many collectors from breaking boxes. Thank goodness for the slew of breakers that offer low buy in for the everyday collector to have a chance at some of the insane pulls yielded by 2016 Topps Triple Threads. In the end if you're looking to just recoup value from a box most of these boxes will not give you your original return on your box purchase price. The problem is there are some insane hits that you would not be able to afford unless you get lucky in a break or a box purchase.

One thing nice about Triple Threads is the personalization of cards to the player based on nickname, accomplishment, or other events. It is so much nicer than just a square or oval jersey piece. One only needs to look at the Troy Tulowitzki or the Jose Fernandez that we pulled as a example of this. A high end product should deliver something that makes the run of the mill game used, unique besides just slapping a low numbered serial number on it. So kudo's to Topps for doing it with the game used. That's not the end of the line either as one can check eBay to see the insane hits that are priced crazily.

In closing I wish Topps would get the hint and put these cards in a hard package instead of a foil pack. When your delivering cards that can be one in a life time pulls why not invest in a better method to protect the hits?

    What we pulled:

    Base - 4.5/5
    Design - 4/5
    Fun - 4/5
    Value - 3.5/5
    Rebuy - 3.5/5
    Overall 18/25 (72%)

Once again, I'd like to thank our wonderful sponsors at Topps for giving us the opportunity to open and review this release. For more information on all of their products, visit them today at www.topps.com.
