    Scoring Rules

    How It Works

Every game in the tournament, from the round robin to the gold medal game will have a thread posted in the WJC Tournament GTS Forum (coming soon). I will post these 1-2 days in advance to accommodate members as best as possible – with the tournament in Canada this year there are some early start times. The relegation round games will not be part of the contest.

Your role is to correctly predict the score of each game. Make sure that you get your selection posted early and before the puck drops on that chosen game—for the first time we will allow multiple guesses for any potential score during the round robin portion of the tournament. Once we get to the medal round, however, there can be only one winner per game.

If someone correctly guesses the score for both the winning and losing team (i.e. the exact final score) that person is the nightly winner. If nobody gets the final score correctly, we will use the following scale to determine who gets the point:

    1. Correctly guess the score of winning team; closest score to losing team without going over
    2. Correctly guess the score of winning team; closest score to losing team going over
    3. Correctly guess the score of losing team; closest score to winning team without going over
    4. Correctly guess the score of losing team; closest score to winning team going over

To illustrate how it works, let’s look at this scenario:

    Player 1: Canada 4 – Finland 2
    Player 2: Canada 1 – Finland 3
    Player 3: Canada 3 – Finland 0
    Player 4: Canada 2 – Finland 1
    Player 5: Canada 3 – Finland 1
    Final Score: Canada 5 - Finland 1

In this scenario, because nobody correctly guessed the score of the winning team we would go to option 3 – Player 5 correctly guessed that the losing team would score one goal and that the winner would score 3 goals. They narrowly beat out Player 4.

In a scenario where no players guess either the winning team's or the losing team's score, no points will be awarded for that game. Using the example above, if the final score of the game is Canada 7 - Finland 4, no points would be awarded as none of the players guessed either team's final score.

Multiple people can win for each game based on the scoring system if they share the same prediction--round robin only!

Each game's winner will receive 1 point in the UD RAK ‘EM UP Contest. For the Bronze Medal Game a correct guess the score will receive 3 points total, and for the Gold Medal Game correctly guessing the score will see the winner receive 5 points.
