End of an Era - Bruins Fire Head Coach Claude Julien
http://www.tsn.ca/bruins-fire-head-c...-role-1.666146
BOSTON — The Boston Bruins fired Stanley Cup-winning coach Claude Julien on Tuesday, with the team in danger of missing the playoffs for a third straight season.
General manager Don Sweeney announced the change on Tuesday, naming assistant Bruce Cassidy the interim coach. The firing comes the same day the city celebrated the New England Patriots' Super Bowl win with a parade.
Boston has lost two in a row and six of nine and fallen out of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
I'm going to miss him behind the Boston bench, and I mean that honestly. His firing is another indicator of the end of a particular era in the Bruins-Habs rivalry. He won them a Cup. He's a good coach and I don't think he will be out of work for very long.Habs fan and collector! Main PC's: Carey Price, Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Juraj Slafkovsky, and of course...

Good coach in this league, tough to see him go. He won't be out of work very long though. Even Vegas, perhaps?

Bruce Cassidy? They should have made Neely the coach, or Sweeny. They're really good at everything else.

yea aren't they? Had to do it same day as Pats parade. Probably was time, but can't wait another day?
Claude will probably be employed in pro hockey, longer than these two. Very disappointed in Neely
loved as a player, starting to despise him as an exec

I mock Neely & Sweeny.... but this is not pot calling kettle black.
I think one of the biggest mistakes teams make is gifting high level executive jobs to former players. Edmonton was terrible for the better part of a decade, because the two guys in charge were not good enough at their jobs.
Some players take on mid-level jobs (that they likely aren't "really qualified" for) but then they're working under people that have been doing it longer, they learn, and can do a decent job later.
Steve Yzerman... while I don't think he's done an amazing job in Tampa, he certainly hasn't been terrible. A few years of working in the Red Wings front office made him a little more ready for that job.
What did Neely & Sweeny do before the Bruins handed them the keys to team? Not enough to prepare them for those jobs...... and I suspect they'll keep running the team into the ground for another 5 years before they're sacked.
