PSA Cross over grading . Evidence of trimming
Hello i sent in some 1980's wayne gretzky cards to PSA for cross over registry . they had been previously graded by beckett. (i cracked open the bgs case before submitting)
1 x bgs 9.5
1 x bgs 9
1 x bvg 9
all three came back as not gradable "N1 - EVIDENCE OF TRIMMING"
these all were originally graded by beckett at different time periods and were by no means consecutive serial numbers .
do you guys think PSA is full of crap and just didn't want to give my gretzky's high grades or do you think beckett is grading trimmed cards?
if they are actually trimmed cards it would blow my mind , i mean what are the chances of this being the case?
here is the bvg 9
here is the bgs 9.5

I think I've read that Beckett have graded trimmed cards before.

Didn't PSA grade the Gretzky-owned Honus Wagner T206? Didn't Bill Mastro admit to trimming that one?

Does PSA consider sheet cut cards to be trimmed? That's what I would wonder about.
As I understood it.... if you cut vintage cards from uncut sheets - Beckett will grade them as if they were pack pulled, and PSA will not.

1970's to 1980's O-Pee-Chee cards from this time period graded by BGS are not worthless but they across the board sell for far less than PSA graded cards.
There are plenty to see in completed ebay auctions but 1 quick example I saw a few days ago.
1984 Chris Chelios O-Pee-Chee BGS 10
sounds like an awesome card, but has sold for $185-$225
1984 Chris Chelios O-Pee-Chee PSA 10
sells for $350 even after box rippers have upped the population the past year
this is not a hard rule exactly, but, Vintage Hockey for sure get graded by PSA.
oh, forgot to add that the above post is correct. BGS will grade sheet cut cards and PSA tends to not do soLast edited by ryan2374; 02-14-2017 at 10:46 PM.

Ouch,
the above post is accurate - PSA does not grade sheet cut cards.
With that said, both PSA and BGS are guilty of encapsulating trimmed cards. Culprits have gotten very skilled at this. It may be impossible to avoid or improve this.

Is it possible that the process of being slabbed/unslabbed made the cards appear to be trimmed and/or led to the lower grade on the FWA?
Just throwing that out there, I'm no expert on grading cards.

i called psa and asked .
they are having the "head grader" review the wayne gretzky cards (3 cards total) as a one time courtesy.
they are also having the "head grader" review the jonathan toews for $18 (no courtesy on that one)
will let you guys know once i have an update .
