    March 11th, 2001: Only 3 races after replacing the lat Dale Earnhardt, rookie Kevin Harvick beats Jeff Gordon to the line in a photo finish to score his first career win. It is an emotional victory for the fans and the sport.







    March 11th, 2007: Jimmie Johnson once again cruises in the desert and easily wins at Las Vegas.




    March 11th, 2012: Tony Stewart holds off a furious charge from Jimmie Johnson to score the win at Las Vegas, his first ever at the Speedway in the Nevada desert.

    March 12th, 2000: Dale Earnhardt beats Bobby Labonte to the line in a thrilling photo finish to win at Atlanta. It is The Intimidator's 75th career win.







    March 12th, 2006: Jimmie Johnson passes Matt Kenseth on the final lap and outruns him in a race to the line to win at Las Vegas.



    March 12th, 2017: Brad Keselowski is on his way to his 2nd straight win before a part fails in his right front with only 2 laps to go opening the door for Martin Truex Jr. to take victory at Las Vegas. The win is the first for the new Toyota bodystyle and the first time a driver sweeps all 3 stages of a race in Nascar's new format. Fireworks also erupt on the last lap and post race as Joey Logano and Kyle Busch make contact in the final corner which sends Busch spinning-after the race the two fight on pit road leaving Busch with a cut after the brief fracas.

    March 13th, 1983: Richard Petty holds off Bill Elliott to win the Carolina 500 at Rockingham. The win breaks a 43 race winless drought for Petty and it is the 196th win of his illustrious career.





    March 13th, 2005: Jimmie Johnson cruises his way to victory at Las Vegas.



    March 13th, 2016: Kevin Harvick beats Carl Edwards to the line by .010 in a photo finish at Phoenix to take his 8th win at the Arizona track. The fender rubbing duel is the closest finish in the track's history.

    Today in Nascar History March 16th:

    Winners on this date: Marshall Teague, Lee Petty, David Pearson, Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, Morgan Shepherd, Ricky Craven, and Jeff Burton.

    March 16th, 1980: Dale Earnhardt holds off rookie Rusty Wallace to take the win in Atlanta. It is the first superspeedway victory for Earnhardt.







    March 16th, 1986: Morgan Shepherd holds off Dale Earnhardt and wins at Atlanta in an unsponsored car. It is Shepherd's 2nd career Cup victory.




    March 16th, 2003: In what many consider one of the greatest races in Nascar history, Ricky Craven beats Kurt Busch at Darlington in an amazing late race duel and to the line in a photo finish. The .002 margin of victory is tied for the closest in Nascar history to this day.








    March 16th, 2008: Jeff Burton takes advantage of Joe Gibbs racing's misfortunes to take the win at Bristol. Burton is 4th with a few laps to go but Kevin Harvick spins Tony Stewart, allowing Burton to take 2nd, and when Denny Hamlin has fuel pickup problems on the restart, Burton is there again to take advantage for the win.

    March 17th, 1985: Bill Elliott beats Geoff Bodine to win at Atlanta despite racing with a broken leg suffered in a crash at Rockingham 2 weeks earlier.





    March 17th, 2002: Sterling Marlin wins a wild race at Darlington as many crashes mar the event. Steve Park crashes early in his 1st start back from severe injuries, and Tony Stewart takes a trip to the hospital after crashing while leading late in the race.



    March 17th, 2013: Kasey Kahne pulls away late in a typically wild event at Bristol to score his first career victory at the Tennessee short track.

    Winners on this date: David Pearson, Bobby Allison, Darrell Waltrip, Ken Schrader, Ward Burton, Kasey Kahne, and Ryan Newman.

    March 19th, 2000: Ward Burton beats Dale Jarrett to the line at Darlington to end a 5 year winless drought. It is the 2nd victory of Ward's Cup Career.





    March 19th, 2006: Kasey Kahne starts from the pole and dominates en route to an easy win in the rain delayed race at Atlanta.





    March 19th, 2017: Ryan Newman stays out under a late yellow and holds off the dominant cars of the day in Kyle Busch and Kyle Larson to score an upset win in Phoenix on a sweltering 95 degree day in the desert. The win breaks a 127 race winless drought for Newman and snaps a long one for RCR.

    Today in Nascar History March 20th:

    Winners on this date: Dick Hutcherson, Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, Morgan Shepherd, Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch, and Jimmie Johnson.

    March 20th, 1966: Dick Hutcherson wins the 500 lapper at Bristol by 4 laps in a crash riddled race. Only 7 cars finish of the 32 that started.





    March 20th, 1993: Morgan Shepherd passes rookie Jeff Gordon late in the going as he runs short on gas to take the win in the race at Atlanta. The race is run a week later than scheduled due to a huge snowstorm.



    March 20th, 2005: Rookie Carl Edwards becomes the first driver to complete the weekend sweep at Atlanta Motor Speedway by taking his first career Cup Series win in dramatic fashion. Edwards, who had won his first Busch Series race the day before, makes a last lap pass of Jimmie Johnson coming out of turn 4 and beats him to the start finish line to win the event.









    March 20th, 2011: Kyle Busch continues his dominance of Bristol, sweeping the weekend for the 2nd straight time at the track. Busch holds off rivals Carl Edwards and Jimmie Johnson in a late 3 car battle to win a relatively tame race at Bristol.





    March 20th, 2016: In a slip and slide affair at California, Jimmie Johnson passes the dominant car of the day in Kevin Harvick on a late race restart to win in his home state. It is Johnson's 77th career win, surpassing Dale Earnhardt Sr. on the all-time wins list.
