A police investigation is underway in Fort Wayne, Indiana after a former football star was found dead in a local river.

The body of James Hardy III, a wide receiver who played two seasons with the Buffalo Bills after being selected in the second round of the 2008 draft, was discovered in the Maumee River after becoming 'entangled in a log jam.'

Hardy, who had been reported missing by his family a few weeks prior, was just 31-years-old.

'We are saddened to learn of the passing of James Hardy to We send our condolences to the Hardy family as they deal with this tragic loss,' the Bills organization said in a statement on Thursday.
