Can someone explain the thought process behind selecting Schlemko and then trading him for a 5th round pick in 2019? Doesn't seem like the best use of the San Jose selection

That applies to a lot of the sections, IMO.
Strome was unprotected by the Islanders, and was just traded for Jordan Eberle (the merits of which are debatable) but certain Strome was a tradable asset, even if you didn't want him for your team (Vegas).
Instead they took Grabo (negative value, it helps the Isles), a 1st, and Berube (who will be in the minors).
Ryan Strome or Jordan Eberle are worth more than what they got, IMO.
This same logic... leaving better players on the table... applies to deals they made win Minnesota & Anaheim too. The Ducks deal being exceptionally bad (either Mason or Vatanen are worth more than Theodore and Stoner's bad contract, IMO)
