Who's on your radar for a possible increase in collectability in 2017/18?
I know that the collectability of any player is contingent on a lot of different factors and can rise or fall dramatically over time. With that disclaimer, I'm curious who might see an increase in value in 2017/18.
The near-top of my list is Jack Eichel of the Sabres - great new coach in housley and hopefully a healthy Eichel, etc. I'm also curious about Nylander of Toronto and Mantha of Detroit and will be interested to see how the year develops for them.
So who do you think may see a rise in collectability?
Thanks!
Jerry

Interesting question - with the free agency season in effect now we will probably see some short-term movement of cards of players going to their new teams, but it largely won't push up values unless they have some significant and immediate impact on their new squads. This type of crop, though, doesn't really lend itself to too many guys primed for a surge in value. There's a lot of well-established players and a lot of defencemen, neither of which really help move the needle a whole lot.
There's one guy that, if he re-signs with his most recent team, will have some movement: Alexander Radulov. A lot of people, myself included, jumped on a few "steals" of his cards after he started out great with the Habs. If he does stay with the team on a long-term deal I think you'll see a lot of people get fully onboard collecting his older stuff (mostly rookies, not so much the stuff in between) and his new Habs cards will probably be among the most popular on the team if Upper Deck starts to produce some memorabilia and autographs of him. To date, there's no Habs jersey cards of Radulov and the only two autos of him in a Habs uniform are an Expo Priority Signings and a super-hard-to-find Overtime auto--the Expo auto is usually a $25-$35 sale. Both cards are of course stickers, but if we get hard-signed cards those will be very popular.
And I guess also that Drouin will have a similar jump in the hobby: people will grab up rookie cards and new Habs cards as they are released.Habs fan and collector! Main PC's: Carey Price, Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Juraj Slafkovsky, and of course...

I'd like to think Aberg, Fiala and Arvidsson might go up in value if they have another year like this past one.

I think Matthew Tkachuk might be one. His stuff seems kinda cheap. If he can produce a big year.
The key to finding these increases in value is you need a player to be on a collectible team. Drouin stuff exploded making it impossible now.Flickr: Hidden Content

After hearing Marc Bergevin's presser today I think Habs fans can forget about Radulov.

Drouin for sure, already seeing it. I could see Parayko cards going up in value with him getting picked to play for Canada at the wc and the sizable contract he should be getting. Glad I own a large majority of his rookie cards just in case.

Nice subject here. I think @theboxbreaker96 is right, matthew tkachuk value should increase. Patrik laine value should stay high...probably the next regular "50 goals" guy.

MacKinnon is at an all time low right now. He can only go up.
Benn has been low for awhile as well. With the additions in Dallas, watch players in Dallas uniforms when they were rookie to increase ( Klingberg comes to mind as well )*** Main PC - Roberto Luongo ***

I think Nylander will increase in value and surpass Marner for the #2 spot of this year's Leaf's 3 rookies.
Also agree Matthew Tkachuk should go up in value as well for players from this year.
I'm a Wild fan, but I really think Eriksson Ek is going to develop into a very good NHL player and if the Wild let him play a full season, I wouldn't be shocked if he has a great year. Picked up a bunch of his stuff for cheap so I'm hoping lol!
Also, if I can give an opinion I would have to say, maybe not next year, but I really think the best "buy-low" player in the game right now is MacKinnon. If stuff is very low right now and I would not be surprised if he became a top player in the league in the near future. Can't be fun playing for the Avs at this time.

I've been trying to add some Mackinnons seeing that prices are so low on him right now. Rantanen, Ek, Kyle Connor, Barzal, Ehlers, Scheifele, Nylander. List goes on depending on what you can get them for.
