    NHL veteran and first-year New Jersey Devils forward Brian Boyle has been diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia, a type of bone-marrow cancer that the team's doctor says can be treated with medication.

    Incredibly, the 32-year-old Boyle still hopes to play in the Devils' opener on October 7 against the Colorado Avalanche, although the team has yet to put out a timetable for his return.

    'I don't like missing games,' he said Tuesday. 'I feel as close to normal as you can feel.'
