Best is hard to evaluate because each era is different, but there is some goalies that made a huge impact on how to play in net, the biggest one is Roy with his coach Francois Allaire, they both were way ahead of their time. Hasek is another one that taught a lot of things on how to play. Back in the days, Plante was also way ahead of his time, he was also one of the first to writes book on how to play goalie and give goalie lessons.

I am 71 years old and have played hockey since I was a kid and am still playing in an old timers group. The best goalie I have ever encountered is anyone who plays goal. They all seem to stop me. I have a hard time scoring on any empty net. That being said,
ALL GOALIES ARE THE BEST.

Jim reminded me that this guy is the best goalie in my mens league every time he fills in for one of our regulars.

It just goes to prove you dont have to be a pro to not score on an MT net. I CAN DO THAT.
