Cool Early 2017 Year in Review: The Jersey Numbered Ed. (Mantha+Aho+Zetterberg ETC.) [SCAN HEAVY]

    Hi everyone,

I know it seems a bit early for a year in review, we haven't even reached Thanksgiving yet here in the States and I'm already calling it in. But I'm at a point where I feel satisfied where my collection has progressed to as of now and decided to cut back with the higher dollar purchases for the next two months or so. This year featured a continuation of growth in my Athanasiou collection, but what really took me by surprise was how much traction and momentum I gained in my Mantha collection. As I saw how he was progressing into a good player with attributes that I admittedly fawn over (good shot/sniper, size and reach), especially in his outdoor game vs Toronto, there was a time I said I was IN. Sure enough 11 months later, I have a collection I am quite proud of. To branch off of that, I also began some small mini PC's of Aho, Zacha & Puljujarvi. I guess the 16/17 Rookie bug sorta hit me. While the Zetterebrg front remains a bit calm so to speak, i did manage to knock off a few nice pieces this year. Hey, its better than nothing. But man oh man, that future watch patch auto, it seems like I'll be married with kids by the time I get one, especially at the right time lol.

I also must give a huge thank you to all the members who have helped me with my collection. This year was really something special with those who wanted to help me with the goodness of their own heart. And for that, I thank you.

Now focusing on the theme of the title. One way I really try to curb my purchases is waiting for jersey numbered versions of cards to pop up. I mean, who would think jersey numbered versions would pop up so often right? Well boy was I in for a treat, through the rise of e-pack, hard work and alot of luck, finding jersey numbered cards were not as few and far between as I initially thought. Thusly, as you will see in this post, my wallet didn't catch a break as I had hoped, but I did wind up with what I feel are solid additions to my collection as a whole.

One funny "lowlight" on the year is how I sold my three "main" 2013 Aaron Judge cards right before he took off. In my mind there was no way he could maintain such a historic pace right? Well sure enough he did and I missed out huge lol. Well hey, you win some and lose some. Still do have a nice Gypsy queen base rookie which I pulled. Which I love the design of, so i guess I came out alright lol. Even if its only a $5 card =).

Alright guys, thats enough talk for now. So without further adieu lets start off with my Mantha collection

My most recent BIG BOY in my Mantha collection. One goal of mine was to have at least one of the handful of unannouced rare cards such as his GLO-PEE-CHEE, FWA Black or his YG Acetate from SPA. At one point I did have the GLO-PEE-CHEE but it was a bit damaged and I reluctantly had to send it back =(. Along with an Aho SPA YG Acetate too.

Now here is THE KING of my Mo collection

Anthony Mantha 16/17 UD OPC Platinum Marquee Rookies Golden Treasures 1/1 (1) by Timothy Wong, on Flickr

Now here is a project I was hoping to finish, but doesn't seem possible. When OPC Platinum was released on E-Pack I was fortunate enough to pick up a few jersey numbered versions from the set. There are 6 possible jersey numbered versions, Red Prism, Blue Cubes, Seismic Gold, Retro Gold, Retro Orange and lastly Red Prism Auto. As of date, I have five of the 6, with the last one I need being the Red Prism Auto which is up on E-Pack now. But unfortunately the seller doesn't want to sell it, nor do I want to hound. So if he ever wants to let it go, hopefully I get my hands on it. But until then, I will be so close yet so far.

Some Double A. Was so glad we resigned him. Though he's had some warts so far, he's made a few nifty plays. The small details, like many players will be what makes him from a good player to great. And I'm a man of patience, just hope management is just as patient and that he himself is ready for the task. I hear in interviews that Larkin & Mantha want to be impact players for the Wings for a long time. So you know the goal is there, but there is no reason why AA can't be part of that too.

Here is a fellow 02/03 Rookie class member. And a card I was hunting for a long while

Jason Spezza 02/03 UD Honor Roll Signature Class SP Auto (1) by Timothy Wong, on Flickr

Another fellow 02/03 rookie class member, Rick Nash

I have been looking for this stubborn guy for a long time too. While this one isn't in the best of condition with its surface and slight corner issues, I would have been a fool to pass this up for around $10. For now it will be a place holder for the condition upgrade I will hopefully find in the future. Lets just hope it doesn't take another 6 years -_-

Some Aho. I followed him by way of Puljujarvi in their Karpat times. Such a smart and slick player. Even though the goals haven't been there, I am confident he will find himself on the positive end of things at some point this year. He's just too smart for it.

Similar to Mantha's OPC Set, I am only a few away from Aho's OPC set, I'm just missing his Orange Rainbow, Retro Orange, Red Prism Auto & Seismic Gold Auto. *Of course as I type this, both the Retro Orange and Orange rainbow popped up on ebay. See what I mean? Just when I want to say no, these cards just keep popping up lol.

Some Jesse Puljujarvi. I'm hoping for good things this call up, but I personally do feel that he's not ready. Its sort of like throwing him to the wolves, but we'll see what happens. I don't think he should be ashamed of needing more time. I wish I got to watch the Condors to see the warts personally, but he is a player that needs to develop the mental part of the game. For some that never happens, but when you have a player of such physical ability, you make the effort and resources to bring that out in a player. I have a thing for players who always smile and bring this sort of child like joy from playing the game.
