The Real Story Behind those Random Black Briefcases in 2017 Flawless Collegiate

Astute busters of Panini America’s new 2017 Flawless Collegiate Basketball and 2017 Flawless Collegiate Football releases have no doubt noticed by now the existence of seemingly random Black Briefcases included amid the product’s familiar Silver Briefcases. Well, there’s a reason for that.

Panini America Product Development Director Ben Ecklar has confirmed that special Black Briefcases were randomly inserted at a rate of one in 20 cases in both products. Black Briefcases contain one additional autograph or memorabilia card with a focus on on low-numbered, high-tier autograph and premium patches.

Is there a reason Panini has to pimp out their products when they have exclusive football rights now? I mean I could see them trying to garner buzz in a market with Upper Deck and Topps competing against them but doing this when there is no other choice for licensed NFL cards makes them seem utterly desperate here.
