    Custom project

Hey guys. I've been making custom cards for a little while now, and I wanted to share my most recent project with you. I made every hall of famer since 1952 a rookie card in the year which he made his big league debut. Obviously a bunch already had cards.. Aaron, Seaver, Mantle, Clemente, etc etc. A lot of them are impossible, I know. There'd be no way for there to ever be a 53 Banks or a 61 Brock and so on and so forth, but I made them anyway. Hope you guys enjoy. Click on the last link for much larger versions of the pics.

I'm not really sure what you're asking me. I mean, the cards are all designed, I'm just sort of reverse engineering them. It's a lot of trial and error. I've been making these since around June and i've learned a ton. I work in Photoshop and It's just really as simple as making the shapes, finding the correct fonts, photos and then putting it all together. Lots of googling to figure out how to make photoshop do what you see in your mind, but it's all out there. Basically it just boils down to patience and a good eye.

I was wondering if you took an existing card for the year and team you were working on, scanned it in and used it as a template to make your card.... I've been doing it that way, fixing the colors and then cut out the image and layer in a new image... Any tips on figuring out the fonts used for the cards? I've seen there are web pages where you can load up a picture of a font and it tells you what font is similar. However most of the time the font they suggest is something special (which they in turn try to sell to you). Thanks!

No. I make every part of the card with the exception of some fonts that don't exist.. 78 topps comes to mind. Those font sites work pretty well. Fonts cost money. Wish I had better news for you.

No plans to. I think I'm done. 48 or however many I made is enough I think. Between finding year appropriate pictures, and actual card sets that might have existed in a player's rookie year.. I just don't wanna.

Love the 1961 Topps Lou Brock card, plus the backs look legit. What kind of card stock or printing technique do you use to get the backs to look like that? Nice work and thanks for sharing!
