I don't think it's quite that simple. I fully believe that Rene Bourque (an easy example) is still good enough to play in the NHL. He put up double digit goals with the Avs last year. Hardly elite, but name the 200 forwards that scored more goals than he did last season (it's a trick question.... with 12 goals scored, there were only 199 with more than him).
BUT, what do teams want more: A 36 year old winger, making 1.2 million, that scan score a dozen goals... or a 21 year old winger, making 900k, that's probably good for 7 or 8 this year... and might turn into a 12 or 15 goal guy next year or the year after?
Clearly they want second player (can't blame them for that) because they want to be younger and cheaper.

I died a little inside here...
Rachel was just not on at all, and Kevin........ Hhhhhhhh Kevin, Kevin, Kevin.... Losing twice to a hack team in Shuster was just not acceptable.
As for losing to Germany I wasn't thinking it was a sure thing before the start of the game. There was still three former NHL regulars on Germany that were pretty decent in Erhoff, Seidenberg, and Goc. So I wasn't too convinced we had it in the bag. It was almst two compareable teams going at it here.
Now For the German's against Russia... Is that one in the bag for OAR? At this point it's anything but a sure bet.Searching for: Jagr, Palffy, Stumpel, and Boyd

The Seidenberg who participates at the Olympics never made a game in the NHL. He is the younger brother of stanley Cup winner Dennis Seidenberg.
Here in Germany everyone was surprised after beating Sweden and it was unbelievable to beat Canada. Now hockey-germany is having it's own "miracle on ice"
Congrats to Canada for reaching at least the third place!

Travel advisory: Germans in Canada should exercise a high degree of empathy. Be nice, don’t gloat, give hugs, buy rounds of hot chocolate.

Just imagine how you would feel if Canada beat us in soccer

It can't hurt and I am certain there will be a curling boom in the USA as well. Good for both sports. The want list at this link features what I need of Gretzky, Roy, Ottawa Senators, and Miscellaneous sets. I also have a CFL want list on my page and if you have nothing from it I will consider other traders of current Ottawa Senators,Guy Lafleur, + trade bait.

Why is everyone stunned at this result??
For the first time since 1994, every team was on equal footing. That's the way these tournaments should be. Everyone should have an opportunity to win. This does not happen with NHL participation. Let's face it, Germany has less of a chance against Russia, Canada, or the USA (for example) if NHL players are involved, and it's not right.
Gary Bettman stated yesterday that he doesn't see the need for the NHL to go to the next Olympics either. Check that out:

The better team that day won the game, and Canada got what we deserved, frankly. I hope Germany wins it all. Good for them, good for hockey.
Sometimes if you go into a game with the over-confidence (that I think we suffered from a little), these upsets can happen. I really like how wide open this tournament has been. It's the way it should be. Plus it allows players, one an individual level, to compete in an Olympic tournament, one they never would have dreamed about otherwise.Jhonas Enroth Card Collector & Host of the Hidden Content
