Set recommendations?
Hey guys, just looking for some set ideas/recommendations as I'm having a really tough time making up my mind. I would like to start a base set, an insert set, an auto set, and a memorabilia set but I feel a lot of the sets nowadays are all too familiar/stale. Feel free to toss out any thoughts and pics are always appreciated.

Upper Deck A Piece of History sets are always a fun one. I collect the 300 Win Club goalie cards. They split them up into 1,000 points, 300 wins, etc.
I like these memorabilia (there are some auto'd variations, too) sets because it really captures certain career milestones that only a select number of players have ever accomplished, so there is some history behind it as well. While the set keeps on getting updated since its beginning, the design has pretty much stayed the same.

I became obsessed with 12/13 Artifacts low #'d patch cards and it has been fun chasing them on Ebay, but not so much getting any for trade except when the set first came out. I also plan on buying some boxes to add to the fun. The set has tons of star players and has 150 cards. I am around 50 keepers so the chase continues. You can see what I have so far in my Flickr.

for base set there is 17-18 opc platinum # 1 to 200, it's fun to collect, there is 10 legends all-star and 50x rookies and they are low bv which is cheap to acquire. For inserts set platinum has also lot of good option for cheap, and the cards looks good. I like the retro #1 to 100

I'm currently obsessed with collecting as many Maple leafs rookie inserts/parallels from 2016-17 Fleer showcase as possible. Love the product, love the variety and its decently affordable both as new product and singles on the secondary market. Currently over 50% complete on Leafs cards from the set, but its about to get much harder, as many remaining needed cards are numbered 50 and under. Here is my current progress on the "hot propsects" autos and patches:
The set has tonnes of rookies in it for every team, even many not featured in other sets

Basically would just recommend collecting a set that is appealing visually, fun to chase due to scarcity or affordable.

Would you consider building a set from the junk wax era? You can still find wax boxes for $20 or so, and it can be fun to open packs and hand-collate a set where you don't have to worry about a million different inserts and parallels. Plus, you get like 12 or 15 cards per pack. That's huge! lol
Here are some recommendations:
1990-91 Topps (Rookie cards of Modano, Richter, Mogilny, Roenick, Recchi, and more)

1990-91 Score (Memorable, well-done design)

1991-92 Upper Deck (The photography in this set really put Upper Deck on the map.)

1992-93 Fleer Ultra (The original, not the 2012-13 retro inserts!)
