For more than a year, I’ve been considering writing a column about sports’ investing — the three stocks I own that allow me to invest in the Atlanta Braves, New York Knicks and New York Rangers, and skiing. Prompting me to finally decide to write this column was a terrific Associated Press story in the Journal May 12 entitled: ‘Baby Braves’ are suddenly baseball’s most exciting team.

Certainly the headline’s “most exciting team” is probably an overstatement given the home-run-hitting New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Angels, a team that features superstar Mike Trout — the major league’s highest-paid player ($33.3 million) — and 23-year-old Japanese import Shohei Ohtani.
