Watch: Danica patrick rude to fan during autograph signing

Before her final race in the Indianapolis 500, IndyCar driver Danica Patrick signed autographs for fans. One encounter left a fan with a bad impression of her afterwards.


According to Terez Owens, the fan showed up at the race track at 5 a.m. and waited in line for several hours before he finally arrived at Patrick’s table and asked her sign his hat.

Nothing new there. On Carb Day, she had a Chevy Q&A with her teammates Ed Carpenter and Spencer Pigot. Before she even got there, the emcees asked us to not ask for an autograph or a selfie of her. After the session was over, they all exited stage left. Three big guys who could have played for the Colts fanned out and shielded Danica from us. I went the opposite way of the stage, only to see Danica hop in her golf cart (already turned on) and hoof it out of there. Ed and Spencer stayed a little longer but left soon after.

I got to do a few Chevy Q&As that day. All the drivers were very engaging. Kyle Kaiser and I even talked for a few minutes after the session. During the full field signing the next morning, I get a signed handout from Kyle before the session!

The worse part is that every other driver I met at Indy this year was great...Dixon, Power, Rahal, Newgarden, Helio, Pippa, Hinch, etc. I got 27/33 drivers who ran the 500 this year. I even got Mario Andretti, Rick Mears, Dario Franchitti, and Al Unser Jr. during the month. I just feel bad for the ones who only wanted Danica.

Darn, that's too bad. Not familiar with Patrick's usually signing tendencies. Maybe this was just a one-off? Not sure. I would give her the benefit of the doubt though. Maybe she was having a tough day?
