    FAKE or NOT???

    A guy I am talking to says he got a bunch of old cards at an estate sale. Among those cards was a '33 babe ruth #53 and a '52 mantle. I need to know if these are fakes or originals before i make any kind of offer.

    @mrrosado

    Are you sure about that?

    I ask because he is one graded and it not green but yellow.

    I know of the green one you are talking about it and it is not number 53 above but 181.

    LMK your thoughts as I hate to tell him it fake when it could possibly be real.

    If you truly want to look at the Mantle above you need a better scan of the back as well. If you look at this article you will see there a few telltale signs but the person scanning left that side of the card out. Not saying that why but a red flag to start off is not good. Here is the link:

    Tell him he needs to submit it to a third party source such as BGS, PSA or SGC. without validation, based only on pictures, I would have to lean towards fake- those are the two most faked cards in the baseball side of the industry, and having them both just "show up at an estate sale" raises red flags. Any company selling for an estate sale would know the possible value of those cards and would get them authenticated or advise the owner of the estate to do so.

    Never trust those cards raw. Unfortunately there are lots of fakes, and lots are very good...

    I found a site that ran over the differences and I believe they are both fake. Didn't have a ton of hope, but I figured it didn't hurt to investigate haha
