June 15th Strikes Again - Habs Swap Galchenyuk for Domi
Exactly one year after the Drouin trade, the Habs GM Marc Bergevin strikes again.
Canadiens swap Galchenyuk for Max Domi.
It’s another risky move that immediately looking at the stats seems a step down for the Habs. Galchenyuk is a former 30-Goal scorer while Domi has 33 goals in his entire career. If he 9 he scored last year, 4 were empty-net goals. So...yeah. Guess we will have to wait and see.
Within an hour, Domi’s YG’s on COMC went from $4.25 to $8. I snagged a Canvas off eBay for cheap too. So those are covered at least.
Thoughts?

My thoughts.
Montreal is not in a position to win now. Too bad Bergevin has only 1 hand to play to save his job .... do everything he can to try and make his team win now.
They have the wrong guy at the helm, and too many big contracts.
Domi does look like hes a step down from Galchenyuk, especially seeing as Montreal might have given Galchenyuk the shortest leash ever ..... the Russian player in MTL again ( I understand hes technically an American )
Marc Bergevin is gonna drop the Habs to an all time low. Have any of his trades worked out? Is he still trying to find random players to play center?*** Main PC - Roberto Luongo ***

On those rare nights when Galchenyuk shows up to play he has the skills. However, most of the time he looked totally lost.
The want list at this link features what I need of Gretzky, Roy, Ottawa Senators, and Miscellaneous sets. I also have a CFL want list on my page and if you have nothing from it I will consider other traders of current Ottawa Senators,Guy Lafleur, + trade bait.

If Domi ever pops 20 in a season for Montreal, I'll come back to this thread and comment how wrong I was. .. But I don't seem him ever doing anything of consequence in the NHL... He's just not very good.
Only silver lining for MTL is that Galchenyuk goes to AZ, where somewhat decebt players go to have their careers railroaded... so joining that mess probably means they never look stupid for trading him.

I'm not going to claim to know how Galchenyuk and Domi play on their respective teams. However, just looking at the trade it looks like a bad trade for the Canadiens. I don't understand what Montreal are attempting here.

As a standalone move, this is puzzling on the Habs side for me. However, if this is a precursor to a tear down, sending another vets like Patches and maybe Price out for a ton of young futures, I can get the move. They get a touch younger with Domi and both players have similar PPG over their short careers, albeit Chucky thwarts Domi in the goals department.

This trade does not appear to address any need for the Habs, it's more of Bergevin "making a move."
The writing is on the wall for Bergevin, I said it last year and I'll say it again, he needs to go.

Just knowing the players and what they have done in the past, it seems lopsided. Domi has scored 18 goals the past 2 years. RGM Mention 4 of the 9 from last year were ENGs.
