Im not sure if all young guns are doubled up, but im pretty sure they both count as rookies.
I believe the Datsyuk Retail is the harder to find version*** Main PC - Roberto Luongo ***
*** MOST WANTED - 12/13 PRIME COLORS "PATCH" ROBERTO LUONGO x/8 ***

I liked this idea and wish they stuck with it. The retail versions are worth quite a bit more since they were produced in lower quantity.
The best modern day example is the Shining Stars Defense from recent years. They sell for a ton more than the Centers, for example.
Not trying to side-track the conversation, but I hate that retail products are so dumbed-down and think it's bad for the hobby in the long run. At least there are sometimes little goodies like these that add a little value back into the product.

It is not the full YG checklist... but a bunch of them... as others have said: Retail vs Hobby variations. Added value to both products, and you had a chance to pull something not available in the other.
I think that's the only year they did it (just like 02-03 was the only year that they SP'd some YGs more than others).
I think bringing this style of variation back, but for ePack, would actually be something really clever......
The volume of YGs available on COMC, as a result of rip / flip people on ePack... have made them near worthless... and the stars (all but McDavid) have seen the potential value drop big time.
If they gave ePack YGs a different photo than what you'd pull from retail or hobby, that would (most likely) increase the value of all.

All of the 2001-02 Series 2 Young Guns had both Hobby and Retail versions, each with a different photo. Both versions are "official" Young Guns and it was done on purpose. No production details were released by Upper Deck and the only one that has a difference in value between the two versions is Pavel Datsyuk.Hidden Content
